Cherry

(Prunus sp.) 

One of the earliest trees to bloom in the spring, the flowering cherry is not a native plant but one introduced from Japan in the early 1900s. Although the time of bloom is strongly influenced by temperature, generally flowers appear sometime in March. Several cherry trees are located near the start of the Nature Walk on Westminster Way, as well as at other locations on campus.
