Black Cohosh

Common Name: Black Cohosh

Latin Name: Actaea racemosa

Bloom Time: Summer (May to August); a white flower spike lasting about 2 weeks

Location: Nature Trail; multiple places, primarily near the Picnic Table

Attracts: Butterflies, Hummingbirds; also Birds for seeds; host plant for the larvae of three kinds of Butterflies which eat the flowers

Special Note: Many of the plants along the Trail do not get the needed 2 to 3 hours of morning sun to flower, but the foliage is still attractive.
