Virginia Bluebells
Virginia Bluebells
(Mertensia virginica)
Shade-loving bluebells prefer woodlands and begin to bloom in early spring. The pink buds open to a pure blue flower, which, however, pales and turns pink again after the flower has been pollinated. Mature plants reach 1 - 2’ in height, but by mid-summer they die back to the ground and remain dormant the rest of the year.
