Charlotte was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is a graduate of Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina and the National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University. In 1974, she joined the Trust Department of the United Virginia Bank, which later became SunTrust Bank. She retired as Vice President and Trust Officer in 1999.
Charlotte was a member of the founding Board of Westminster Canterbury and is currently Vice Chairman of the Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg Foundation. She is also active in Leave-a-Legacy of the Blue Ridge, various committees of St. John’s Episcopal Church, and a member of Oakwood Garden Club. In addition, she has been a two-time member of the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia, served on the boards of Boy’s Home in Covington, Virginia, the Lynchburg Historical Foundation, Seven Hills School, the Lynchburg Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Lynchburg Estate Planning Council, and other community organizations.
She is married to Louis C. Fischer, III, a retired Episcopal priest who is now in Health Care. Louis and Charlotte met at an aquatic’s school in 1955 and married in 1959. The Fischers moved to the Lynchburg area from South Carolina in 1968. They have one daughter and lost another to cancer several years ago. Charlotte enjoys gardening, reading, sewing, and working on the family collection of 18th and 19th century glass.
