Married in 1958; three children; 5 grandchildren; have lived since 1962 within four blocks of Westminster Canterbury; and are members of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Both enjoy together travel, times with their families and friends, and partaking of the many interesting and entertaining activities that go on at Westminster Canterbury and in the Central Virginia area.
Ann was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Chicago; graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College; received advanced degrees in biology and education from the University of Virginia and Lynchburg College; and taught and served as an assistant principal in the Lynchburg Public Schools for over 20 years. She was one of a group of 10 local women who completed hiking the 550 miles of the Appalachian Trail in Virginia in the Spring of 2005, and has been active in the Jefferson Choral Society, the Tree Stewards, the Junior League, the Hillside Garden Club, as a Pink Lady at the Virginia Baptist Hospital, and in other organizations. Gardening, hiking, reading, (book club member), and sewing are amongst the things she enjoys. Ann’s mother, Hazel Mandot, has been a resident of WC since 1984 and is currently in Skilled Care.
Elias (Eli) was born and grew up in Lynchburg; graduated from the College of William and Mary and received a law degree from Washington and Lee University; practiced law for two years; was employed in a variety of executive positions with Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation for 30 years; and worked with his son, Alex Richards for 10 years in the founding and operation of the Richards Insurance agency. He has served as a board member in other positions with the United Way, Chamber of Commerce, local Crestar Bank, Sweet Briar College, Easley Foundation, Central Virginia Industries, Lynchburg Area Development Corporation, Rotary Club and other civic organizations. Enjoys playing golf and bridge (both poorly). He died at WC in 2021.
