Lloyd was born in Buffalo, New York. While his father was in the U.S. Army he lived in New Jersey, and Ontario, Canada. His family moved to Rochester, New York in 1947. Lloyd completed his undergraduate work at the University of Rochester and earned his M.Div at Harvard Divinity School. He then attended Virginia Theological Seminary to take additional classes. He began teaching at Augusta Military Academy and was there for two years. He was ordained to the Priesthood in 1964. He is retired from St. Barnabas and Trinity Episcopal Churches.
Elizabeth was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She earned her undergraduate degree from Sweet Briar College and did graduate work in Stratford, England at the Shakespeare Institute. She earned her Ph.D. from Harvard University. Elizabeth taught at Mary Baldwin College, Winston-Salem State University, and in the fall of 1973 began her career at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College from which she retired.
Lloyd and Elizabeth met in Staunton and were married in 1964. They came to Lynchburg in 1971 and have lived here ever since. They have three sons and four grandchildren. Lloyd continues his interest in history as a docent at Popular Forest and through his enjoyment of maps, railroads, and travel. Elizabeth considers “reading and breathing as equally essential” and is very active with AAUW, the Colonial Dames, and the Historical Foundation.
