Frank was born and grew up in Lynchburg. He attended local schools through E.C. Glass High School. Frank graduated from Hampden Sydney College and then took a course in Civil Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He did this because he was going into road construction and wanted to learn the language. He was employed until he retired in 1982.
Mary Kathryn (his late wife) was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and lived there until she was about six when she moved with her family to Lynchburg. She attended local schools until high school when she enrolled at Salem Academy in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She then attended Randolph Macon Women’s College for three years.
Frank and Mary Kathryn were married in 1952 at her home on Langhorne Road because their church, Rivermont Presbyterian was undergoing renovations. They have two sons and eight grandchildren. Since his retirement, Frank has spent his time working for his church, New Covenant School, and other professional organizations. When Westminster Canterbury purchased the land from VES for the purpose of building this community, Frank was on the VES Board. He was on the Board of the Presbyterian Home when Westminster Canterbury purchased the land for the cottages from the Presbyterian Home.
Mary Kathryn’s interests have focused mainly on her home, family, and church. She enjoyed needlework and reading, especially historical novels. She died in 2016.
