Ted & Joan Swanson

Ted was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He lived there through his college years, attending Steinmetz High School and then Illinois Institute of Technology, IIT. He graduated in 1953 from IIT with his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. While a student there he was invited into the General Electric Engineering Training Program and remained with General Electric in various marketing and sales assignments until his retirement in 1996. In 1956 he married Mary Lou White of Waynesboro, Virginia, who passed away in 1986. In February of 1992 he and Joan were married. 

Joan was born in Salem, Massachusetts. When she was very young her family moved to Philadelphia and later to Princeton, New Jersey where she attended Princeton High School. Following in her mother’s footsteps she graduated from Wells College in Aurora, New York. Upon graduation Joan joined Nationwide Insurance Company where she worked in management positions in various locations over a 35 year career. In her last position she was the Director of Urban Markets Operations which caused her to travel extensively to major United States cities. 

Ted and Joan are both involved in their church, St. John’s Episcopal. They both enjoy reading, traveling, walking, and eating out.
