Karen grew up in Orinda, California. She has BS and RN degrees from UCLA and a M.E.ed from Lynchburg College. She has been a part-time instructor of Health Science at Central Virginia Community College since 1977.
Bill, her late husband, was born in Mt. Holly, North Carolina. He is a graduate of Duke University and Medical School. After an internship at the Medical College of Virginia and a 3-year residency at Bowman Gray in Winston Salem, he spent seven years in the Air Force.
Bill and Karen were married while he was an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. They moved to Lynchburg in 1967 where he practiced diagnostic radiology until his retirement in 1997.
Bill and Karen have three children and 2 grandsons! Peakland Baptist is their church and one of many places where they enjoy volunteering.
