Sue was born and raised in Lynchburg and graduated from E.C. Glass High School and went on to Johnston Willis Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond. She spent three years getting her nursing degree and then two years working there.
After she left Johnston Willis Hospital she met and married Thomas Pitts in 1961. After they were married they moved back to Lynchburg where Thomas worked as a Physicist at B&W. Sue took a job as the school nurse at Randolph Macon College until she had two children and later became a homemaker. She stayed at home with her children until they were grown and she returned to work for 13 years at V.E.S. as the school nurse and later retired. Thomas passed away in 1993.
Sue has one grandchild and attends Centenary United Methodist. She enjoys reading, traveling, bridge, and crocheting. Sue also volunteers as a Parrish Nurse for Centenary United Methodist and volunteers her time at the Salvation Army
