Floyd grew up in Burke, South Dakota and his family moved to DC in 1939. He attended Washington Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia and then received a scholarship to play football at Georgetown University. Floyd only attended Georgetown briefly before going into the Army for 18 months serving in Germany as a Medical Tech. Upon coming back from Germany, Floyd attended UVA and then transferred to MCV to get his DDS. Maxine grew up in Christiansburg, Virginia where she attended Auburn High School. After high school she went to Radford University and then transferred to MCV in Richmond where she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. MCV is where they met and they married shortly after graduating. They were married in 1953 and moved to Lynchburg where Floyd began 40 years of dentistry and Maxine was employed by Centra Health. They both retired in 1995.
Together they have three sons and six grandchildren all in Virginia. Floyd enjoys playing golf, tennis, hiking and gardening. Maxine enjoys needle work, reading, book club, cooking, and exercising. They attend Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
