Norm, husband, was born and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia where he attended E.C. Glass High School. He received a degree in math and physics from Lynchburg College in 1949 and continuing in school, received an M.S. (1951) and Ph.D. (1953) from the University of Virginia – after UVA, he went to work at E.I. Dupont in Wilmington, Delaware where Debbie who was employed in public relations for Dupont Textile Fibers. They married in 1955. Debbie was from Berwyn, Pennsylvania where she attended high school. In 1950, she received an undergraduate degree in business and commence from Drexel University in Philadelphia. After their marriage, they came back to Lynchburg. Norm worked for Babcock & Wilcox Company as an engineer. Prior to the birth of their children, Debbie was a program host for a Lynchburg radio station; after their children were in school, she became the first Public Information Officer for the Lynchburg City Public School. In 1984 she received a Master’s Degree in School Administration from Lynchburg College. Norm worked for B&W for 38 years; Debbie worked for LPS for 25 years.
Norm and Debbie have three children and seven grandchildren. They are members of Peakland Baptist Church. Norm enjoyed traveling, walking, doing crossword puzzles, math problems, and singing in the church choir. Debbie enjoys traveling, volunteering, working on the scholarship committee of the Women’s Club, reading, walking, doing crossword puzzles, singing in the church choir, and doing freelance writing. They both enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren. Norm died in 2019.
