Carol and Harold Hankins
Harold was born and raised in Pittsylvania County in Southside Virginia and graduated from Gretna High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and then attended Virginia Tech, graduating in 1957 with a degree in Industrial Education. Harold enjoyed a long career in manufacturing, retiring in 1990 as President and General Manager of Electro-Tec Corporation in Blacksburg. Harold and his first wife June met in 1948 while both were working at Woodrow Wilson Rehab Center in Fishersville, VA and were married in 1951. Following Harold’s service in the Navy they relocated to Blacksburg, raising two daughters and one son there.Harold and June spent much of the last 23 years since Harold’s retirement in Florida. They now have 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. June passed away in 2014. Harold enjoys golfing, gardening, reading, keeping up with current events and Rotary Club.
Carol was born and raised in Pinnacle, North Carolina. She went to Pinnacle High School and upon graduating finished one year at Louisburg Junior College. After school she went to work as a telephone operator for C&P here in Lynchburg which later turned into Bell Atlantic. She retired from Bell Atlantic in 1996. Carol met her husband, Joseph T. Coulter at church in 1977 and it wasn’t long after meeting that they were married. Carol and Joseph were married for 33 years before Joseph passed away. Joseph was a technician for GE and later Ericsson. Carol has two sons and four grandchildren. She attends The Well, a newly formed Presbyterian based church in Forest. Carol enjoys reading, walking, exercising, card and board games.
Harold and Carol were married in December 2015.
