Skip was born in Winchester, Virginia where he attended Handley High School and then went to the University of Richmond (B.A.) before receiving his MHA at the Medical College of Virginia. Skip spent 45 years as an executive in the healthcare industry and retired as Executive Vice President at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia.
Skip has three daughters (one in Lynchburg, one in Fredericksburg, and one in the Greensboro area), eight grandchildren, and one great grandson.
Joy was born in Morgantown, West Virginia where she attended Morgantown High School and then graduated from West Virginia University. After college, Joy went on to be a medical technologist where she spent a year at Duke, one year at Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, Scotland, two years at the Anaerobe Lab Virginia Tech and then eight years at UVA. After her children were grown she became a realtor in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her two children both reside in the Charlottesville area.
Joy and Skip are both active volunteers at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church (ushers, altar guild, lay readers, Outreach, Finance and Long Range Planning Committees). They also volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Daily Bread, Blue Ridge Food Bank, and The Gateway. Skip is a member of the Board at Westminster Canterbury (former chairman) and is completing his term as board chairman of Central Virginia Community College. Joy loves the outdoors and reading, and Skip is an avid sports fan--University of Richmond and UVA teams especially! They will be accompanied by Pepper, their ten year old miniature schnauzer.
