Jan Johnson

After growing up in Oklahoma, Jan lived in Missouri, Kansas, and Arizona with her husband, David.

As he was preparing to teach at the college/university level, they were raising their family and looking forward to the beginning of his career. In 1969 they arrived at Sweet Briar College, where David taught and Jan finished her undergraduate degree. 

In 1978 she received a Master’s degree from UNC at Chapel Hill and worked at the libraries of both Sweet Briar College and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College until retirement in 1999. Their family includes a son and family in Norfolk, as well as a granddaughter in Knoxville, whose mother died in 2012. 

Jan is an active member of St. Paul’s, where she has served on the vestry and participated in the children’s education and music programs. Sharing her enthusiasm for swimming, reading, playing bridge and enjoying life is her goal at Westminster Canterbury.
