Langhorne & Joe McCarthy

Langhorne and Joe were born in Lynchburg, Va., where they both graduated from the old E C Glass High School. Joe attended Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia, graduating in the class of 1953. Following graduation he was in the 11th Airborne Division for active duty from 1953-1956. Langhorne attended Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. 

Langhorne and Joe were married in 1956, and he started working as a Salesman for the Lynchburg Foundry Company, and in 1965 he began working for Taylor-Ramsey Lumber Co where he served as Vice-President until he retired in 2008. 

Langhorne and Joe attend St. John's Episcopal Church, and both have enjoyed being active in volunteering at church, and in the community, and serving on boards. Life was busy raising three boys and two girls with all their extracurricular activities and sports. The boys followed in Joe's footsteps and all graduated from VMI. Their oldest daughter graduated from Mary Baldwin College, and the youngest daughter graduated from Davidson College. Life still remains busy with volunteering and boards, and keeping up with their nine grandchildren, 

Joe died after moving to Westminster Canterbury.
