Jerie, born and raised in Derby, Connecticut, and Kent, a native of Wakefield, Rhode Island, met when Kent moved to Connecticut to take a job in data processing. At that time, Jerie was enrolled at the University of Connecticut, while Kent had already earned his degree from the University of Rhode Island. Soon thereafter they fell in love and married in 1970, the year of Jerie’s graduation.
After just a few months, Kent’s new employment with Babcock and Wilcox brought the newlyweds to Lynchburg. Initially they expected to live in the Hill City for a couple of years, but remained until 1978. They then relocated to Rhode Island, where Kent continued his data processing career. Three children became a part of their lives, however, and they remembered that Lynchburg enjoyed a reputation as a good place to raise children and returned to central Virginia to bring up their family.
Having previously bought land in Concord, Kent, who enjoys learning new skills, decided to build a home on their property. Shortly after finishing its construction, he made the decision not to continue his data processing career and enrolled at Lynchburg College in the Masters in School Counseling program. Upon receiving his degree, he joined the staff at Altavista High School as Guidance Director, where he remained until his retirement in 2006. Kent now spends his time reading, doing genealogical research, studying the Bible, and working in prison ministry at his church.
Jerie, over the course of her career as a physical therapist, has worked for several medical facilities in the area, including Central Virginia Training Center, from which she retired in 2010. An avid runner who regularly participates in the Virginia Ten Miler, Jerie’s physical routine also includes Zumba, yoga, and swimming. Her less strenuous interests consists of gardening, reading, and searching out natural remedies for healthy living.
When you first encounter the Websters, you may feel that you are seeing familiar faces. And, indeed you are, for as long-time members of the Canterbury Club, Jerie and Kent have regularly attended WC events and have visited often. Because of this familiarity with WC, they feel very comfortable about their move.
