Dana (nee Davidson) and Jim Redmond have lived in Lynchburg (Dana’s home town) since 1963, when, after a three-year stint as a medical officer in the United States Army, Jim joined Radiology Consultants of Lynchburg. He retired in 2002.
Jim grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, received a B. S. degree from Duke University and stayed on to complete both a medical degree and residency in radiology. Dana graduated from E. C. Glass High School and after receiving a B. A. degree from Randolph College (Randolph Macon Women’s College at the time), entered Duke where she met Jim. They married soon thereafter and during Jim’s Army years Dana taught at a junior high school.
The Redmonds have three children and nine grandchildren. Daughter Kay and husband Jensie Teague live in Charlotte, North Carolina; another daughter, Holly and her spouse, Robert Spiller, currently reside in Baltimore, Maryland, and will move to Washington, D. C., in the Fall. The youngest, and only son, Jim (James Redmond, III) and wife Chantal call Lynchburg home. The grandchildren are of various ages pursuing their educations, some still in high school and others in college.
Both Dana and Jim give reading and walking as major interests. For reading, Dana describes herself as a fiction junkie, while Jim says he leans toward history, science, and other non-fiction. As to walking, much of that has been connected to regular journeys to Italy where, due first to family connections and then a purchase with friends, they have had their own place to stay. They find it hard to identify just one great walk, but easily agree that the French and Italian Alps, along with Switzerland, have provided many favorite ones.
Now that they feel somewhat settled in their Westminster Way Cottage they plan to explore the various activities and programs offered at Westminster Canterbury to find what holds the greatest interest for them. In the meantime, Jim will continue to volunteer at Virginia Baptist Hospital where he maintains and repairs wheel chairs and both will remain as members of the Lynchburg Dante Alighieri Society.
