Judy Saunders (nee Moss) grew up in Madison Heights, Virginia. Shortly after she graduated from Madison Heights High School, a friend introduced her to Gordon Saunders (deceased 2009). They married in 1954, and settled in Madison Heights. Over the course of his career, Gordon worked for both the Trailways and Greyhound Bus companies, achieving more than 40 years of safe driving.
For the first 16 years of her married life, Judy managed the household and raised three children: Margaret McGarrahan (husband, Loren) who lives in Moneta, Virginia, James (wife, Diana) who resides in Burke, Virginia, and Davis (C. D., Jr), also of Burke. Judy has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
When the children reached their teenage years, Judy decided to pursue a long held interest in working as a secretary. She enrolled in and completed the secretarial science program offered by Central Virginia Community College. From 1969, until her retirement in 1986, she held several secretarial positions with the Amherst School Board, beginning in the board’s office. Her most enjoyable and longest tenure was as secretary/treasurer at Amherst County Junior and Monelison Junior High Schools. Debilitating migraine headaches forced her retirement.
Hobbies and interests for Judy include sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She also enjoys playing card games, especially Rook and Canasta. But most of all, she treasures the time she spends with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family members, and friends.
