A resident of Lynchburg since 1968, Phil Brown grew up in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from South High School in 1954 and enrolled at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Five and one-half years later Phil finished with a double major—a BSEE in engineering and a BS in business in industrial management.
In the summer of 1958, Phil met Marian Peterson (deceased 2018) and they married the following year. Phil has two children. His son Gregoire Brown lives in Richmond, Virginia, and his daughter Kasia Brown-Moghaddam, her husband Cameron, and their two children reside in Potomac Falls, Virginia.
After graduating from the University of Colorado, Phil started a 30-year career with General Electric (GE), followed by four years with L.M. Ericsson. Initially, he completed an eighteen-month GE training program in Technical Marketing before serving in the United States Army for six years (active duty for two and the reserves for four). Back with GE, working in technical marketing, Phil accepted assignments in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Daytona Beach, Florida, before settling in Lynchburg. He retired in 1999.
For the past 22 years, Phil has been singing bass with a barbershop chorus known as the Smith Mountain Lake Harmeneers. He is also in “High Cotton,” a barbershop quartet. Phil holds membership in the Lynchburg Exchange Club, the Wine Tasters, Jamerson YMCA and Timberlake United Methodist Church. He is happy to be at Westminster Canterbury and looks forward to participating in WC activities. Be sure to give Phil a warm Westminster Canterbury welcome.
