After graduating from Coral Gables High School in Coral Gables, Florida, Joanie DeNoon traveled north and entered Randolph-Macon Woman’s College; four years later she received a B. A. with a major in Political Science. She then married a Lynchburg businessman and today claims over 60 years of residency in the Hill City.
Joanie has three children and six grandchildren. Her son, Bill Fix, III lives in Arlington, Virginia; daughter Megan Westervelt and husband Westy reside in Covington, Louisiana, while a second daughter, Molly Seif and husband Jeff call Atlanta, Georgia, home.
With the youngest of her children in school all day, Joanie enrolled in the Masters of Teaching graduate program at Lynchburg College. Upon completion of these studies in 1973, she gained employment as a 5th grade teacher with the Lynchburg City School system and retired in 1993, after 20 years of service.
Joanie is an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. She keeps busy doing needlepoint, practicing for her next piano lesson, and spending time with her friends playing mah-jongg and bridge.
