Paul Perrone, born in Schenectady, New York, met his first wife of 55 years, Barbara, when she traveled to Schenectady to visit her grandparents. They married in 1965 the same year that Barbara earned a B.S. degree in Education from the University of Dayton. One year earlier, Paul had graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a B.E.E. degree and a commission in the United States Navy, where he served for five and one-half years.
The Perrone’s have two children and four grandchildren. Daughter Peggy Weiss and husband Oliver live in Charlottesville, Virginia, and son Pete and wife Margaret reside in Menlo Park, California. Barbara passed away in 2020, after a long fight with cancer, shortly after moving to WC with Paul and after a lifelong dedication to service to her community and its nonprofit organizations.
Paul briefly worked at General Electric’s Lynchburg plant before embarking on a 30-year technology career in both naval and civil nuclear power, which included positions with the United States Department of Energy and Babcock and Wilcox at two of its locations (Lynchburg, Virginia, and Lancaster, Ohio). When he retired from B&W in 1993, he founded Applied Synergistics, Inc. He served as CEO until selling the company in 2002. Paul has three U. S. patents, is an active amateur radio operator and an instrument-rated commercial pilot. As vice president and chief technology officer of the Lynchburg Regional Air Show, he oversaw many aspects of the Lynchburg Virginia air show including the Aerial Tribute portion of the D-Day 75th Anniversary Commemoration, and is a member of the Board of Nominations of the National Aviation Hall of Fame. He also spends time assisting civic and non-profit organizations with technology needs.
In October, 2024, Paul married "the girl next door" at WC, Betsy Laundon. Betsy and Paul have had a doorway cut between their Woods Edge apartments and enjoy feeling "brand new" in their new life together with Ernie.
