Janice Housman

Janice Housman, native and current resident of Madison Heights, Virginia, graduated in 1952, from what was then Madison Heights High School and immediately went to work.  Always in the billing and accounting departments, she was first employed by Craddock Terry Shoe Company and later Old Dominion Box Company.  She met Jack Housman (deceased 2014), of Appomattox, at a picnic and they married in 1956.  Their son Eric and daughter-in-law Donna live in Concord, North Carolina.  Janice has one grandson.

With the birth of Eric, Janice left the work world but returned in 1973 taking employment with Crawford Carpet and Tile Company in Madison Heights.  When she retired in 1997, she had carried out various responsibilities including bookkeeping, sales, and manager.

One of Janice’s most fulfilling hobbies has been making quilts, giving many of them away.   She brings with her to WC the last quilt she made before disposing of all equipment and materials related to this craft.  Her new hobby is learning to crochet. 

Since retirement, Janice has been an active volunteer assisting Meals on Wheels for over 20 years, as well as working in the Neighbors Help Neighbors store in Madison Heights.  Janice has held membership in Randolph Memorial Baptist Church for 62 years assisting with various church activities and programs.
