Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a resident at Smith Mountain Lake for 20 years, Annette was pleased to have relinquished home ownership for the ease and security of living at Westminster Canterbury in 2020. After graduating from Penn Hills High School in Pittsburgh, Annette worked as a secretary and administrative assistant while attending classes at the University of Pittsburgh. After moving to New York City, she entered Pace University where she earned a B.A. degree. In 1969, she married Larry Loschert (deceased 2013) and started a business career in marketing. With the arrival of two sons Annette devoted her efforts toward managing her home, raising the children, and volunteering in the community. Today, Annette’s son Matt, his wife Kristen, and their two daughters, Katie and Abby, live in McLean, Virginia. Andrew and Jenn Loschert and their two sons, Wes and Tucker, reside in Los Angeles, California.
Once Matt and Andrew reached school age, Annette again enrolled at Pace University and in 1985 received an MBA degree. Over the next 30-plus years she pursued a career that encompassed corporate marketing, academic administration at the graduate business level at the University of Miami and the University of Southern California. After experiencing a short retirement to Smith Mountain Lake, Annette served as Director of Lay Ministry in the early days of Trinity Ecumenical Parish in Moneta and entered the non-profit sector where she served as Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of the Roanoke Valley. She subsequently consulted to literacy organizations throughout Virginia for the Department of Education.
Just as her career was varied, so are Annette’s interests. She feels most at home outdoors while connecting with nature. She is a painter who calls herself a bold colorist and prefers acrylics over watercolors for her landscapes. On campus, you might find her in the pool (if you are an early riser), on the nature trail, in the art studio, or with her nose in a book on the back patio always eager to stop reading to talk with those who walk by.
Annette is a member of Trinity Ecumenical Parish in Moneta, Virginia, where she has served as a Stephen Ministry leader. Here at WC, she works with the Pastoral Care Visitation Team.
