Kitty Caroon grew up in Lawrenceville, Virginia, a small community south of Richmond. She enrolled at Lynchburg College (today the University of Lynchburg) in 1960 and met Leighton Robertson (deceased 2021) that same year. They married and settled in Lynchburg in 1964, shortly after she had graduated with a major in Spanish.
For three years Kitty taught third grade at New London School. With the birth of her first child, followed by a second one, she concentrated on being a mother and homemaker. Both sons, Brad and David, and their spouses, Kim and Kristen, live in Lynchburg. Kitty has three grandchildren.
When Brad and David were of high school age, Kitty returned to working outside the home, first on a part-time basis as Volunteer Coordinator at Westminster Canterbury, Lynchburg. Two years later she accepted a part-time job in Development at the Miller Home for Girls, where she remained for three years. Her next, and longest tenure was as the Administrative Assistant at New Vistas School. When Kitty retired in 2007, she immediately enrolled in bridge lessons, an activity that she has regularly pursued ever since. In addition to playing bridge Kitty enjoys walking and reading.
She is an active member of St. John’s Episcopal church and in addition to volunteering there in a variety of ways, she has represented the church as a member of the board of Interfaith Outreach. Once settled in her WC apartment Kitty plans to provide volunteer services at Parkview Mission and to become a member of Westminster Canterbury’s Pastoral Care Visitation Team.
