Lewis (Angie) and Judy Arthur
In 2006, Lewis Angelo (Angie) Arthur and Judy Waterworth, both widowed, attended a fundraiser for Lynchburg’s Awareness Garden located at the Ed Paige entrance to Blackwater Creek Trail. Discovering a shared interest in supporting cancer awareness efforts, they began dating regularly and married about one year later. Today they form a family of four children. Angie’s daughter Elizabeth, lives in Denver, Colorado, and another daughter Alice resides in the Richmond area. Judy’s son, Chad, and daughter, Deedy, call Lynchburg home. The Arthurs have ten grandchildren.
Born in Miami, Florida, during WWII, Angie’s family returned to Lynchburg where he graduated from E. C. Glass High School and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute finishing as a Distinguished Military Graduate in the United States Army. He earned a DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) degree from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in 1970. After active duty in the Army in California, Lynchburg became home for a 29-year dental career.
Judy, born in Lynchburg and a graduate of E.C. Glass High School worked as an educator for 31 years, after completing two degrees awarded by Radford University. After several years of teaching in elementary schools, middle school students captured her love of teaching, providing the longest and strongest public-school challenges!
Angie has been a life-long organic gardener and plans to continue utilizing the nearby HumanKind gardens. In addition to being an avid golfer, other hobbies include involvement in financial management and 30 years of watercolor painting. Judy, likewise, engages in a variety of hobbies. She enjoys reading, games such as Mah Jongg and bridge, and gardening. As a member of Ragged Robin Garden Club, she has held several leadership positions. Also, in their leisure, the Arthurs enjoy traveling and count a special trip touring Cuba as one of their best. Both look forward to the use of the WCL wellness center to continue exercising and practicing yoga before taking a daily walk.
Judy and Angie are devoted members of St. John’s Episcopal Church and strong supporters of the Free Clinic and Beacon of Hope. For six years, they have mentored a Beacon of Hope high school graduate through completion of college.
