Lyle Bohn
Lyle Bohn grew up on a small farm near Wahpeton, North Dakota. While putting himself through college, he ran out of funds his senior year and received a $500 Engineering Scholarship from Babcock and Wilcox (B&W). After earning a BS in Mechanical Engineering from North Dakota State University, Lyle joined B&W in Lynchburg and worked for them for 34 years.
One day after college graduation, Lyle married Mary Miller Bohn from Lisbon, North Dakota. Mary is currently a resident of Runk and Pratt Memory Care facility on Liberty Mountain.
Lyle and Mary have three children. Deborah McWilliams, husband Rob and two grandchildren live in Rochester, Minnesota. David Bohn, wife Catherine and two grandchildren reside in Alexandria, Virginia. And, Daniel Bohn, wife Gwen and two grandchildren live in Midlothian. Deborah and Daniel graduated from UVA and David graduated from Virginia Tech.
When Lyle started his Engineering career with B&W, he was one of the first members of a newly formed Service Division involving projects focusing on the inspection and repair of commercial nuclear power plants, and ended with senior management positions in what became Framatome/Areva. Lyle participated in many first-of-a-kind projects. One placed him on a team that got the first video images of the damaged Three Mile Island 1 Core.
In 2001, Lyle joined the Nuclear Management Company (NMC) in Hudson, Wisconsin as Senior Vice President of Nuclear Support. NMC was owned by five Midwest utilities responsible for operating eight commercial nuclear power plants.
In 2007, the Bohns moved back to Lynchburg and Lyle joined BWXT as General Manager of Nuclear Services and ended his career as President of Welding Services in Norcross, Georgia.
While Lyle’s career involved substantial travel in the US and internationally, Mary focused on raising the family. The Bohns still own a house in Wisconsin where Lyle enjoys visiting for three weeks each spring and fall.
Lyle’s interests include golf, college sports, working out, reading, and seeing family and grandchildren whenever possible.
