Bill Rose’s trip to Lynchburg has been a long journey. After graduation from high school in Beckley, West Virginia, he did a tour in the Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964 as a helicopter mechanic and crew chief. His last duty station was Marine Corps Air Station Quantico VA. In 1967 he graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in accounting and finance. He started his accounting career with a major CPA firm and, “did my stint as a CPA”. After working in several different manufacturing companies, he settled into the healthcare field where he held accounting manager and corporate controller positions. He retired from the West Virginia Hospital System in 2003.
Moving to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Bill spent 20 retirement years enjoying the sun and sand, away from the cool, cold, snowy climate of the West Virginia mountains. When his daughter came to visit and caught him blowing leaves off the roof of his house in spite of his bad knees and hip, she talked him into moving to Lynchburg where she and her family live. In his new home at Westminster Canterbury, he will have “no more painting, no more climbing on roofs or pushing a mower.” Now he can enjoy doing some traveling, golfing, and visiting his other three children in three other states. With years of civic involvement through the Marine Corps League, Knights of Columbus, Moose Club International, and the American Legion, William looks forward to “using my background to help others with their needs” and to “starting a new life here at Westminster Canterbury.” His new neighbors look forward to welcoming him into that new life.
