Paul Rundell
Paul Rundell and his wife, Loyola (deceased 2020), moved to Central Virginia after retiring from their long careers in New York state, leaving cold northern winters behind for a new home in Lynchburg in 2002. After graduation from Union College in Schenectady, with degrees in history and political science, Paul joined the U.S. Air Force, where he was selected to attend the Defense Language Institute to learn Russian. When he had completed the immersive DLI course (Russian six hours a day, five days a week), Paul was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, perhaps the best possible assignment for someone who loved fishing, hunting, and exploring new territory.
After his four Air Force years, Paul returned to his native state for graduate studies, and an internship led to his 28 years of service with New York state agencies in Albany. He was introduced to Loyola, an elementary school teacher, by his mother, who was about to retire from teaching at the same school. Paul and Loyola adopted a son, Jonathan, who now lives in New Hampshire.
When the Rundells moved to Lynchburg, they became members of Heritage Baptist Church. Paul enjoys reading, especially the Bible and a wide range of historical subjects, and he looks forward to getting to know his fellow residents.
