Joyce (Faye) Tice
Born and raised in Lynchburg, Faye Tice graduated from E. C. Glass High School and earned a B.S. degree with a major in elementary education from Longwood College (today Longwood University). For the next 35 years, Faye worked as a teacher, first briefly in a Henrico County elementary school before moving to Lynchburg and employment by the Lynchburg City School System, initially at the elementary level.
With a strong love for the classroom, both as a teacher and a student, Faye received a M.Ed. degree with a specialty in learning disabilities from Lynchburg College (today University of Lynchburg) in 1976. This new expertise changed the complexion of her teaching career. She left the self-contained elementary classroom to be a resource teacher working with individual students with special needs. Next in her repertoire of accomplishments she engaged in a team-teaching approach serving as the special education teacher with a classroom teacher. In 1989, she entered the last 16 years of her career in yet another capacity, as a 6th grade math teacher at Linkhorne Middle School.
Hobbies include playing games such as Wordle and Sudoku, exercising by walking and Zumba, and reading, especially mysteries. At the time of her retirement, she joined with nine other Linkhorne teachers to form a book club that continues today to meet monthly. Not willing to stay home all the time Faye has traveled with her sister, Joan Tice (R600), on extensive trips across the United States, as well as Canada and Europe. If you ask Faye if she and Joan look alike, she will quickly answer, “No,” but that their voices are very similar.
