Charlynne Flippin
A native of Lynchburg, Charlynne Flippin attended E.C. Glass High School and Lynchburg College before she married John Flippin (deceased 2015) and they moved to Memphis, Tennessee, while he finished college. They had met when she was 15 at a post-basketball-game Hop at E.C. Glass, where John’s older brother was a student while John was attending V.E.S. After he graduated from college, Charlynne and John returned to their hometown. Married 51 years they welcomed four children: one daughter, Kristy Flippin, who lives in Forest, Virginia, and three Lynchburg sons, Jack, David, and Jef. Jack and his wife, Anne, have two daughters, Livvy, who will graduate from V.E.S. in the Class of 2024 and enroll at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, in the fall, and Kate, a rising junior at V.E.S. Livvy and Kate will follow their grandfather, their father, and their Uncle David into a third generation of V.E.S. graduates in the Flippin family. John was serving on the V.E.S. board in the 1980s when the decision was made to admit young women to the formerly all-male student body.
Charlynne devoted many years to school and sports events and activities at church and at home with her family. She especially enjoyed times spent with family members at Pawley’s Island and teas and luncheons with her friends. She now serves her church as a board member and as coordinator of an intercessory prayer group. She enjoys traveling, shopping, most kinds of music, and books on tape. She serves as Corresponding Secretary for the Lynchburg Woman’s Club and is a strong supporter of Freedom 4/24, a local organization concerned with educating people about human trafficking and ministering to victims in other countries as well as in the Lynchburg area. Now she looks forward to being across the road from the V.E.S. campus and students, to hearing their chapel bells, and to renewing old friendships and making new friends at Westminster-Canterbury.
