Harvey & Violet Hamilton
The available services and numerous opportunities on campus influenced the Hamilton’s decision to join us at Westminster Canterbury. Many friends residing at WC helped to seal the deal.
Violet and Harvey graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1962, and they married the following year. Harvey served in the US Air Force from 1962 to 1966 as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist. Upon returning home to Lynchburg, he was a full-time student at Liberty University. His military training prepared him for employment at B&W Nuclear Facilities at Mt. Athos. Harvey is a private pilot and served in the Virginia Defense Force Aviation Battalion and the Bedford Sheriff’s Department Flight Division. He also served on the Board of Directors of Central Virginia Federal Credit Union and Brookhill Wesleyan Church, and participated in the Big Brothers program.
Before co-founding Valtim Marketing Services in 1986 with Violet, Harvey founded a company building cabinets for residential homes and fixtures for commercial remodeling. He then helped start and grow a cable television acquisition company. Violet retired from Valtim in 2009 and Harvey retired in early 2024.
During high school Violet was elected President of the Baptist Youth Association. She also formed the largest youth rally, until that time, at Eagle Eyrie.
During their Air Force days in Louisiana, she became President of the Women’s Missionary Association and encouraged young girls Auxiliary to reach their fullest potential.
Returning home, Violet studied part time at Lynchburg Baptist College (now Liberty University) and attended Information Technology School in Atlanta and went on to direct IT at Old Time Gospel Hour where her staff helped develop and nurture the Moral Majority conservative organization.
She enjoys writing. Her first book, “Why God Why”, was published in 2013, and she is currently working on a second book.
The Hamilton’s strongly focus on family. Wendy Faith, their first child, was born in 1964. She attended Liberty Christian Academy and Jefferson Forest High School and loved cheerleading, piano, singing, and was an accomplished equestrian. Her favorite song, “Rise Again”, was acknowledged in Violet’s book by the writer and singer, Dallas Holm. The Hamiltons lost Wendy at the age of sixteen due to an automobile accident.
Timothy Scott, their second child, was born ten years after Wendy. Attending Liberty Christian and Jefferson Forest High School, Timothy achieved scholastic recognition and won the State of Virginia Art Award presented by the Governor. He met Laura Elizabeth Lacy at William and Mary. After their marriage, they both pursued postgraduate studies, earning master’s degrees. Tim became proprietor of Valtim Marketing Services in 2001, permitting Violet and Harvey early retirement. Laura went on to found and was Executive director of Lynchburg’s Beacon of Hope, an organization preparing Lynchburg City School students for postsecondary education.
Violet and Harvey are the proud grandparents of Wyatt, Sammy, and Eleanor (Nora). Wyatt is a graduate of Washington and Lee University and is employed in Washington D.C. Sammy is a senior at the University of Kentucky playing on their Lacosse team. Nora received the PEO National Star Scholarship, is a two-time All-American Lacrosse player and she will enter Washington and Lee this fall where she will be a member of the Lacrosse Team. The Hamilton’s attend Eastlake Community Church in Moneta. When you meet Violet and Harvey, give them a warm WC welcome!
