John & Bettie Alford

John was born and raised in Lexington, Virginia. He graduated from W&L undergraduate and Law School. He met and married his wife of 69 years, Bettie Thorpe Alford while they were in college. Bettie was born and raised Manhasset, New York. They moved to Lynchburg in 1963 where John practiced law at Caskie-Frost.  They have lived in Lynchburg for over 60 years.

John & Bettie have three children, Susan Carrington Lowder (Tom), John Alford, Jr (Courtney) and Mike Alford (Alicia) as well as 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and more on the way!

John enjoys fishing, gardening, hunting and sports. Bettie enjoys reading, puzzles and spending time with family as well as their grand dogs. They also enjoy spending time at their family farm in Amherst.

Bettie and John look forward to being with many good friends and meeting others when they join the Westminster Canterbury Community.
