Article & Photo Submission Guidelines

The Recorder Guidelines for Article Submissions

Publication Months:  January, April, July, October

Submission Deadlines:  15th of the month preceding publication month (December 15, March 15, June 15, and September 15)

Guidelines for Type of Submissions

• Original Poetry

• Prose—informative, amusing, inspiring pieces

  • Fiction or stories based on true experiences, under 2,500 words

• Photographs included to accompany a submission will be accepted if of necessary reproduction quality

• Book Review under 500 words  

Procedure for submitting 

• Send article file in Microsoft Word format electronically to Nancy Young, youngnancy180@gmail.com or

• Leave a typed paper copy in the inhouse mailbox for Nancy Young, 180 Bishops Lane

• Author’s name on all submissions

The Recorder Guidelines for Photo Submissions

• Submitted photos must hold a first published status for The Recorder.

• Entries to be held to no more than two per resident and must be vertical shots.

• A caption or description/location information must accompany the photograph.

• Submission deadline for next issue published in current issue.

• Digital entries only and in color to be sent to Jane Massie at
  JMassie@wclynchburg.org

• Entries must be clear enough for quality reproduction, i.e., original, or actual size.

• Subject matter to be campus shots or seasonal shots. Also, acceptable - a photo of a painting, a piece of sculpture, a flower arrangement, or other creative endeavors executed by a resident.

• A submitted photo not used for a cover will be returned to the resident who can resubmit the photo for the next issue.
  
  

Judging for Selection of Front and Back Covers

• Selections will be made by an anonymous panel

• Selected photographers will be notified prior to the distribution of The Recorder.
  
  

Guidelines for Other Photos

• Authors of articles are encouraged to include related photos.
