Nature of Volunteer Work
Westminster Canterbury
Resident Website
Westminster Canterbury
Resident Website
The Committee’s work includes a technical component that requires a trained cadre to ensure ongoing maintenance and development.
To show progress and encourage resident suggestions, the Committee, from the beginning, has operated with a minimum of formality. It has been guided, however, by certain content and editorial rules:
Event content must be for a WC function or a WC sponsored function. In some cases, there have been requests for “ads” for events sponsored by organizations to which a resident belongs. These are turned down unless WC has a connection such as providing activity transportation.
The Committee has retained the option of rejecting content at its discretion. Management, however, may overrule.
Content ideas are generated from the Committee, staff, and resident suggestions.
Content has been included not only for newsworthiness but also for education, interest, and entertainment.
Content of controversial or partisan nature is rejected.
Throughout its tenure the Committee has been treading new ground for Westminster Canterbury. It has done so with a high degree of independence keeping in mind the best interests of WC and its residents. This has been successful in that WC Administration has not felt the need for micromanagement.
This Owner's & Editor's Manual is in part an educational tool to assure that there can be the successful continued operation of the Resident Website. New members need to be chosen based on need and upon the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and interest. Staff’s direct involvement in maintaining web pages and their content is encouraged. This staff help along with the injection of new resident talent will ensure website continuity.
