The Craft Room is located on the Garden Level of Woods Edge.
Craft: A pastime that requires certain learned skills, techniques, and knowledge in making physical objects by hand.
Craft Activities: Can include, but not limited to, jewelry making, objects made of beads, quilting, creating objects with paper, making cards, knitting, printing, sewing, and carving.
The members of the Resident Life and Wellness Department encourage residents wanting to work on craft projects to use the Craft Room. The Independent Living Activities Director (Katrina McLane) monitors the use of the Craft Room and consults, as needed, with residents using the room to guarantee an accessible and clean workspace.
The room is designed for use from the beginning of a project until completion and contains cabinets and shelves, work tables, a sink, a sewing machine, a paper cutting machine, hot glue guns and glue sticks, an ironing board, a pencil sharpener, a variety of supplies frequently used in craft projects, a large trash can, and a telephone (X6215). Within the design there is space for storage of necessary materials while the project is underway. Long term storage of supplies for future planned projects can be requested from the Independent Living Activities Director (X3503). If granted the ownership of the materials must be clearly labeled.
Steps to Follow to Use the Craft Room
Obtain and sign a “Craft Room Release of Liability Form” from the Resident Life and Wellness Office. The signed form will be filed in that office.
Once signed and filed your fob will be programed to give you access.
When using the room sign in and sign out in the logbook found hanging by the sink.
Craft Room Guidelines
The use of, and storage in, the Craft Room is only for craft projects.
Materials stored in the room’s cabinets and on shelves will be labeled one of two ways:
Supplies labeled WC can be used by anyone working on a project in the room, or
Supplies labeled with the name of a WC resident are only for that person’s use.
Personal items can remain stored in the Craft Room only if they are being used on a project in progress or permission for long term storage has been given by the Independent Living Activities Director.
Work on a craft project should proceed on a regular basis with an estimated completion date. Any inability to meet this expectation is to be reported to the Independent Living Activities Director.
Items should not be placed on top of any of the cabinets or storage shelves.
At the end of a Craft Room work session return all supplies to the appropriate storage area, clean up the work area, and, if necessary and possible clean the floor, or submit a work order for cleaning.
