The transportation program provides a variety of services including medical appointment transportation and shopping shuttles. Westminster Canterbury also offers transportation to selected special activities arranged through the Activities Coordinator, the Enrichment Coordinator or the Wellness Center Manager. A nominal fee is charged for most of these services.
Transportation for routine doctor appointments is available Monday through Friday. Please call the Reception Desk at 3563, 24 hours in advance to schedule transportation.
Grocery shopping shuttles are available on Friday mornings and trips to the mall are offered on Friday afternoons. Check the Weekly Calendar for times and for any changes in the schedule.
Occasionally residents are sent to the emergency room and may spend hours there but are not admitted to the hospital as a patient. If you find yourself in a similar situation and you do not have local family or a friend that can pick you up, please call the Reception Desk at 3563, and security will come to bring you back to WC. Westminster Canterbury will always ensure that you have a ride home no matter what time of day or night. If you are admitted as a patient to the hospital and are returning to Skilled Nursing Care, the hospital is required to provide medical transportation for you.
Transportation services will be provided for many activities and events planned and sponsored by the Resident Life and Wellness Department.
Transportation Provided by Centra
If you are told to go to the Emergency Room and cannot drive, Centra can provide non-emergency transportation. The Nurse on call can make these arrangements.
Ambulance Emergency Transportation
Ambulance Emergency Transportation to the Emergency Room is expensive, ranging from $350 to thousands of
dollars, depending on the urgency and the treatment rendered during the transport. This is usually provided by a
private transportation service but is accessed when 911 is called by the Westminster Canterbury staff, after you have called for emergency assistance.
Note: Transportation may or may not be covered by your health insurance based on your policy.
If it is an emergency and you are transported and admitted to the hospital, Medicare will pay 80% of the approved charges for transportation to and from the hospital.
