The Westminster-Canterbury wood shop is located on the garden level of Woods Edge. Though in a relatively small space, the shop is surprisingly well equipped. Tools and equipment have been donated over the years by WC residents when they move in or when a need for a particular tool presents itself.
To gain access to the shop, interested residents must contact one of the shop stewards, Chuck Steffen or Charlie Driscoll (see below), for an orientation to the shop. After the orientation, the stewards will request that access to the shop be added to your WC fob.
The most recent purchase for the shop is a Midi-Lathe that can be used to make beautiful pens. The 12” Model VS Lathe, KWL-12SSA.
Here you will find photos and descriptions of the major pieces of eqluipment and hand tools in our workshop. This is also where you can review our shop usage guidelines and rules as well as our tips on important shop safety tips.
The Resources section includes a list of titles in our shop library of reference books and a list of suggested woodworking related vendors, both local and online. There is a dynamic calendar of shop availability along with a list of other WC resident users of the wood shop. Finally, we provide you with links to suggested online video tutorials.
NEW: Video for New Lathe!
If you donate one of your own tools or purchase tools or supplies for use in the shop, you can download the Wood Shop In-Kind Donation Form here. This is also where you will find the form to schedule time in the shop for yourself.
The Forms section also has a dynamic list of items we wish to add to the shop. If you wish to have something added to this list, use the contact form to send your ideas to the stewards.
Use this Contact Form to communicate with our work shop stewards to ask questions, make suggestions, or ask that items be added to the shop wish list.
Charlie Driscoll and Sam Mizener are the Westminster-Canterbury wood shop shop stewards. If you would like a tour/orientation of the shop, please contact one of the stewards using our workshop contact form.
Contact Charlie or Sam, too, if you have a suggestion of things needed in the shop or if you discover a tool or piece of equipment not working properly.
