We are fortunate that past and current residents have donated a wealth of high end equipment to the WC wood shop! As you can see from the images below, our little shop is a very nicely equipped work place. If you have equipment or tools you would like to donate, please download the In-Kind Donation form, have it signed by one of the stewards, and turn it into the Foundation Office on 2nd floor of main building and you will receive a letter acknowledgeing your donation that you can use as a tax deduction.
10" Delta
Table Saw
Extra blades and dado are in cabinet below radial arm saw. There are 3 table inserts in cabinet 2: standard, zero clearance, and dado. Blade cutting range is 45-90 degrees. Always return to 90 degrees, check alignment with square, and lower blade into table when finished.
DeWalt
Planer
For changing the thickness of a board. Must be moved near dust collector and hooked to 4’’ port. Never push wood with fingers, but let machine do the work and pull it through. Put through one board at a time.
Delta Drill
Press
Variable speed belt adjustment inside top. Chuck key to right of machine. Use clamp or a drill press vise to secure work. Check table for level and vertical for square before using. Sanding cylinder drums in cabinet to left of machine.
Craftsman Radial
Arm Saw
The Craftsman radial arm saw is used mainly for cross cutting wood. The stock can be cut at angles from 90 deg to less than 30 deg. It’s depth of cut is larger than the DeWalt miter saw. It has a larger table which is useful with larger pieces of stock. Usually, the large Craftsman vacuum is used with this saw.
Dust
Collectors
One of the 5 dust collectors must be used with all woodworking machines. Operate by remote control using the remote fob hanging on wall next to sink. Always return the remote to its hook. Masks are recommended especially when sanding.
16" Scroll
Saw
The scroll saw is used for making curved cuts in thin materials. It is located on the end of the bench just past the table saw. The blade is tightened with Allen wrench on platform and knob top rear of the arm.
Band
Saws (2)
[Use on wood only!] A 1/4” blade is on each saw which allows for cutting curves or straight cuts. Angled cuts are made by tilting the table; after use return to neutral and square the blade to the table. The blade on a table saw is a bit fragile and must be kept in alignment to function properly. If you feel an adjustment is needed, please call a shop steward for help.
Sanding
Stations (3)
There are two belt/disk sanders - a Rikon and a Craftsman - and a small belt/disk sander. These are used for rough sanding of your project. The Rikon usually has 100 grit and the Craftsman usually has 120 or 150 grit. The Rikon connects to the large dust collector and the small Shop vacuum is used on the craftsman.
Air
Compressor
The pancake Craftsman compressor is located on the floor just left of the sink. It is 150 psi and has two output ports for connecting tools. Under the sink is a small cabinet that has two nail guns. One is a brad gun which will take up to 2” 18 gauge brads. It also handles staples. The other gun is an 18 gauge nailer for up to 2.5” nails. There is a quantity of nails and staples in the drawer of the cabinet. There are various attachments for the compressor for inflating balls and blowing out dust. Please bleed the tank completely when done using the compressor.
Dewalt
Mitre Saw
A miter saw is used for cutting straight vertical cuts or angled miter cutting to create wood trim, frames and molding. It has a dust collector port that should attach to the 4 “ hose.
ShopSmith
Jointer
The jointer is used to put a straight edge on a board. Must be moved near dust collector and hooked to 4” port with adaptor. Check fence for square before and after use.
Bench
Grinder
There is an 8” dual wheel bench top grinder. It has a variable speed control and has a coarse wheel and a finer wheel. Tool is used for grinding iron and steel tools. Do not use for aluminum or brass materials. Leather gloves are recommended (in safety cabinet) since the sparks from grinding are hot.
Lathe
You should have experience in turning wood before using this machine. A face shield is recommended for your protection.
Router
Table
There is a wooden router table made by a previous wood shop user. We have a Ryobi 1.5 hp router attached to the table. The table will take a 2.5: duct collector hose and there is a table edge collector also for 2.5” connection. The drawers on the left have an assortment of router bits with ¼ and ½” shafts. Please ask one of the stewards if you haven’t used the router much. It is very good at removing fingers if used improperly.
