Employee Christmas
Fund Committee
Fund Committee
We live in a tip-free world at Westminster Canterbury Lynchburg! The Employee Christmas Fund was established by the Resident Council in lieu of these tips to reward the many dedicated, capable employees who help us daily. Contributions to this fund are completely voluntary and confidential.
Checks are given out to all employees (other than senior leadership and most department heads) and a party for employees is held with food and entertainment provided by residents, usually on the second Wednesday of each December.
WCL policy has always prohibited employees from accepting tips or gifts from residents. It also prohibits residents from offering them. This policy prevents questions ever being raised about whether the gift was truly voluntary, about fairness of who did or did not receive a gift and whether employees show favoritism to a resident because of tips or gifts they received.
We know from past comments that sometimes these checks completely fund our employees and their families’ Christmases. They look forward to it all year.
Independent residents, members of the Canterbury Club, the Azalea Plan, patients of Westminster at Home, in Hearthside Assisted Living, Drinkard Skilled Care and/or their families or responsible parties can voluntarily contribute to this fund throughout the year at any time but are specifically encouraged to make contributions prior to gifts being distributed in December.
Participants may complete a form available in the Accounting Department that authorizes Melinda Turpin, Accounts Manager, to draft a specified amount on monthly bills. Currently, the Resident Council recommends that residents give $2.50 per resident per day. This is an easy, convenient way to give to those who do so much for us!
The Employee Christmas Fund Committee meets only as needed, usually in the late fall to stuff appeals/reminders & label envelopes.
Questions may be directed to the co-chairs of the committee.
