Donation: "Open Bid"
Environmental Services will accept furniture and other large items from residents. These items are then made avaialble to Westminster Canterbury staff members through what is called an "Open Bid" process. The items are held in an area of the Terrace Level Tunnel and staff can place bids on them until they are sold. Any funds generated by these sales goes into the Employee Support Fund.
Guest Room Reservations
Westminster Canterbury welcomes and accommodates guests of its residents. Several guest rooms are available by reservation, made at the Reception Desk at least 24 hours in advance. Check-in is at the Reception Desk. The maximum stay for each guest in a designated guest room is one week; for guests staying in a residence 14 days per visit is permitted, not to exceed four visits per year.
All guest rooms are designated as NO SMOKING and are furnished with towels, washcloths, bed linens, a television, and housekeeping services. The charge for the use of these rooms may be paid by cash or check at the Reception Desk or charged to residents' accounts. Check-in is at 4:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM.
Should there be no available guest rooms, we provide a list of Lynchburg area hotels, lodgings, AirBnBs, and VROBs that you might check.
Furniture Moving Services
Residents may request that Environmental Services send staff members to move furniture within your apartment or cottage.
Picture Hanging & Light Bulb Replacement
Building Services will send someone to your apartment or cottage to hang pictures, peg racks, and the like. You can also request that they replace light bulbs. You initiate these services by submitting a work order online or by calling Tammy Vazquez at extension 3579.
Recycle/Trash
All the trash rooms in Independent Living have a designated recycling container for paper, newspaper and magazines and a larger one for paperboard and cardboard. There are also containers in the Terrace Level Brookhaven trash room and the Creekside tunnel for cans and plastics. It is the responsibility of residents to dispose of their own recycling. Please help keep the trash rooms clean by not leaving items on the floor. Call Environmental Services at 3553 if the trash rooms need attention or if you have large boxes you need recycled. Cottage Residents can recycle their items in the recycling dumpsters so designated and provided outside the storage building on Westminster Way near the greenhouse.
Trash will be removed from each residence during weekly cleaning. Trash is also emptied daily from the trash rooms.
Rollaway Bed Reservations
Environmental Services provides rollaway beds (single) including all necessary linens, blanket, and pillow for a small fee rental. Reservations for beds can be made at the Reception Desk at least 24 hours in advance.
Table/Chairs Reservations
Residents may request that Environmental Services provide chairs and tables for hall parties or gatherings in one's apartment or cottage.
